When we were presented with the opportunity of sourcing and supplying the stonework for an outdoor kitchen and bar in Barbados, with a rough, natural, organic theme, we jumped at it. We would always have loved a challenge like this, but this one was very timely. We have been curating a stunning range of block skins for some time, and as of now, we include block skins on our website, as part of our sample service and most importantly, in stock at our London factory. For Jurassic Bar, as it was entitled, we used stock block skins in conjunction with stock slabs of flamed and brushed Italian limestone resulting in something that really ticked all the boxes.
The result couldn’t have been closer to the design concept images. When our workshop had done their bit, we had to dry fix everything to the carcasses at the joinery company’s workshop. Once all checked and finessed the completed kitchen and bar top were disassembled and carefully packed and loaded into a container and shipped to Barbados. The final stage will be for our fixing team to go to Barbados to help with all the finishing touches, gluing the very tricky mitres, fettling the block skin aprons and worktop ends. Also, final clean and final seal of all areas. The supply is ongoing, with other tops to be made for other areas and we look forward to getting some professional imagery of the installation on site.
Although the block skins provided a perfect starting point to achieve the desired effect, extensive chiselling, mitring and a whole myriad of possesses needed to be employed by our skilful masons to adapt them to work. Almost a process of both taming them, and not to mention lightening them of course.
